Foundation Sends Condolences to the family of Haji Jama Muhumad
Amoud Foundation Board sends condolences to the family of Haji Jama
Muhumad. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this difficult time.
Haji Jama Muhumad was an icon in his community and his country, and a giant
among his peers. From the fight for independence to the search for peace and
understanding after the civil war, he has been there whenever his community
and his country needed him.
For those of us at Amoud Foundation, he occupied a special place in our
hearts. He was the winner of our 2005 Awdal
Achievement Award for a life time of service to his community. As the
chair of the Amoud University Board of Elders, he led the fight to make it a
community asset that everyone can be proud of; something that is larger than
all of us. He was endowed with great intellect and wisdom; he leaves a
legacy that his community and his country will benefit from for generations
to come.
Some of us had the privilege of experiencing his
infinite wisdom up close and personal in 2004 during a visit to Borama by a
delegation of Amoud Foundation Board members. At a meeting with community
elders, intellectuals, and local officials, he stood out from the crowd with
his brief but profound talk. He was not one that dabbled in long and winding
trivial talk; he immediately got to the heart of the matter, making the
community’s common goals and aspirations so clear to everyone and briefly
pointing out what it would take to secure a better future for all. Even at
his senior age, he was the sharpest mind in the room.
Today, Awdal lost a central pillar (Udub Dhexaad). If the community were a
team, we lost the captain of the team. May Allah (SWT) reward him for all
his noble and selfless deeds and bless him in his final abode. Amen.
